This website is managed by Southern Maine Traditional Taekwondo, Inc., which independently owns and operates the ATA Karate for Kids school in Falmouth, ME. This site was created to introduce Songahm Taekwondo and to provide contact information for all of the Songahm schools in Maine. For National and World-Wide information, see ATA's official website.
The American Taekwondo Association (ATA) has been developing the Songahm (literally 'Pine Tree and Rock') style of Taekwondo since 1969 and it has become the largest single-style martial arts organization in the world. There have been over one million students in our style and about 350,000 students are currently enrolled in about 2,000 independently owned and operated ATA schools worldwide. Nine of these schools are in Maine and over 20 more are located throughout the rest of the New England Region. Parents are consistently amazed at the impact that our program has on their children's lives. Many of them are so impressed that they join as well, finding common ground with their children through this shared interest. The mental life-skills learned in our program have tremendous impact on social skills, study habits, and perseverance in work and school. The physical training increases flexibility and general fitness, often reducing pain from prior injuries. Training is tailored to the individual's needs and physical condition, making the style available regardless of age or ability.
